How to Become a PIAA Football Official

Read up on the NFHS Rules and Rules Bulletins (rule books can be purchased on the PIAA Store)

Sign in with your new PIAA Official's account and take the Football Sports Examination

Once you pass the PIAA Football Officials Sports Examination, contact our chapter to be affiliated with our chapter (must be completed within 15 days of successful notification of passing your exam from the PIAA office) (Chapter ID: 03F 0478)

Obtain and upload your ACT 34, 114, and 151 Clearances to your PIAA account

Obtain equipment (Clothing and equipment can be purchased from Officially Sports, UmpAttire, or other locations). You will need:

  • Clothing
    • 2 inch striped football officials shirt (short or long sleeved)
    • Black football officials pants with white stripe
    • Black football officials hat with white piping
    • Black leather belt
    • Black field shoes
  • Eqiupment
    • Whistle (lanyard or finger)
    • Down indicator
    • Game card and holder
    • Pencil
    • Chain clip
    • Bean bag
    • Ball-style Penalty Flag
    • Watch/Timer
